Color therapy

Summer Flowers

Color has always been closely linked with emotions. And as a designer, part of my job is to think about that link and use color to emphasize and show a connection between things.

The daytime high temperatures have lingered in single digits in Chicago recently, and everything is covered with a fresh dusting of snow and looks a lifeless whiteish grey color. This is the time of year that people get really down about the weather. We brave the cold on our way to and from shelter with watery eyes and chapped cheeks.

So to help ward off any seasonal affective disorder, I’m offering a little chromatherapy for those of us still in the throes of winter. Here’s a dose of warm vibrant orange to fight off the doldrums – in the form of gerbera daisies. Hang in there, it’ll all get better soon.

Nice–I can feel the warmth! I’m such a lightweight these days I don’t think I could handle the cold like I once could. Great shot–love the light and selective focus.

Thanks Christopher. I eeked this post out at the last minute. People here will be grouchy for the next month or so until we get the mild signs of spring. I can imagine you’ve lost your tolerance for this kind of madness (it’s usually not *this* cold – but it puts weather in the 30s in perspective.)

Ooof, I’ve sure been shooting a lot of blueish-whitish-gray scenes lately. But trying to be in a good mood about it. This makes me think I need to buy some flowers on the way home today. LOVE the orange and the DOF.

Corinna, I’m ALL OVER the grey scenes as that’s what we have now, but I’ve been hearing a lot of grumbles about the cold snap and figure this is my tiny way of cheering folks up. It’s like my version of a bad fake ID and perky boobs (i laughed out loud by the way.) Thanks for taking time to stop and read my randomness.
